Governance & Organizational Oversight

Civil Air Patrol is the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force and is federally chartered by Congress under Title 36 of the United States Code.

Civil Air Patrol operates through a governance structure that combines nonprofit corporate governance, volunteer leadership, national regulations, and Air Force oversight.

Structure and Membership of National Governance

Civil Air Patrol’s national governance structure includes the Board of Governors, National Executive Committee, Command Council, and senior volunteer and corporate leadership.

Board of Governors

The Board of Governors is the highest governing authority of Civil Air Patrol and exercises corporate oversight and strategic governance responsibilities for the organization.
