Government Shutdown

Why was Civil Air Patrol affected by the recent shutdown?

Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a national nonprofit organization, but our operations are primarily funded through federal appropriations.

Many Civil Air Patrol employees are now in furlough status, but will return November 19, 2025.

Even when a government shutdown happens, CAP still has activities.

Local CAP units continue to carry out their missions of saving lives, shaping futures, and serving communities.

National Headquarters services like processing certain administrative requests, select program oversight, and non-mission-critical functions may be delayed or limited as we resume full operations.

If you’re new to CAP and interested in getting involved or partnering with a local unit, you can do so with confidence. Your local squadron remains active and vibrant. If you need to reach national headquarters for a specific service or program, please anticipate potential delays and check the national website or your local wing for the latest updates.

We thank you for your patience and your interest in joining us as we continue to serve with purpose.
