General Counsel and Legal Officers
The Civil Air Patrol has a two-part team providing a broad range of legal advice to the organization comprising a uniformed legal officer corps that represents the largest pro bono team of lawyers in the country and the Office of the General Counsel. Uniformed volunteer legal officers (designated by the office symbol "JA" and led by the Chief of the Legal Officer Corps) consult with commanders, interpret regulations, support operations, and advise on membership issues. OGC, led by the general counsel, manages corporate obligations and risk, including contracts, leases, employment, and litigation issues. CAP/JA and CAP/GC coordinate to advise CAP's leaders and to support CAP's missions for America.
