AD2020-19-06 Propeller Governors

October 20, 2020

The FAA has issued AD2020-19-06, effective 3 Nov 20.  This AD was prompted by reports of an unapproved idler gear bearing being installed on propeller governors either at manufacture or during overhaul. The FAA is issuing this AD to prevent failure of the idler gear bearing. This failure could result in failure of the governor, loss of propeller pitch control, engine and propeller over speed, engine oil contamination, and loss of control of the airplane.

See AD Here: Link

McCauley Alert Service Bulletin 273C (ASB273C) directed the same inspection and measures be taken and if ASB273C was completed then AD2020-19-06 does NOT apply.  CAP directed completion of  ASB273C in late 2018 and 2019 on all of our aircraft.  This was prior to the existence of AMRAD so we have no way to verify that all aircraft that required this ASB actually had it completed.

See service bulletin Here: Link

Now that the FAA has issued an AD for this inspection we need to document the accomplishment of this AD by going through the logbooks and making sure that either ASB273C has been completed, this AD is not applicable or having the bad idler gear replaced in the prop governor.

This AD must be completed within 50 flying hours from 3 Nov 20 or within the next 24 months, whichever comes first.  NHQ/LGM  will be creating a discrepancy for all affected aircraft in AMRAD that this inspection must be completed within the next 50hrs or when the next mid-term oil change is accomplished, whichever occurs first.
