CAP AMSAFE STC Policy and Procedures

April 8, 2020

After careful consideration CAP has decided that going forward we will not be purchasing the AMSAFE system in our new aircraft.   We will also be removing the existing AMSAFE systems from our aircraft as the systems come due for time changes/inspections, extensive work or parts replacement.  We will replace the AMSAFE system with OEM style seatbelts and shoulder harnesses.

When the EMA system comes due for inspection/recertification this will normally drive us to act.  Going forward when this occurs, we will be removing the entire AMSAFE STC, have the weight and balance updated, annotate the logbooks and have the shop send a 337 to the FAA indicating that this STC has been removed from the aircraft.  We will install OEM style seatbelts and harnesses when the AMSAFE system is removed.

If significant maintenance needs to be performed on this system before the EMA inspection/recertification is due we will evaluate each issue on a case by case basis to see if we should invest the time and money or remove the system and install normal seatbelts and shoulder harnesses at this point.  If you have any questions let me know.
