Blanik SB L23/052A

April 8, 2010

Blanik has issued service bulletin L23/052a (attached) requiring a dye penetrant inspection to check for cracks in the inner elevator hinges on all our L23 Super Blanik gliders. The FAA will be following suit with an AD requiring the inspection to be accomplished before further flight as of 26 April 2010. Wings with affected aircraft assigned may proceed with complying with Blanik's service bulletin. The bulletin requires the horizontal stabilizer and elevator assembly to be removed from the aircraft and then separation of the elevator from the horizontal stabilizer. NHQ will cover the cost of the inspection which should be accomplished within four labor hours. If cracks are found, Blanik estimates having replacement hinges available by mid to late May. Once the service bulletin is complied with the forthcoming AD can be signed off as being previously complied with by the service bulletin. Please report the results of this inspection for each assigned glider to NHQ/LGM as accomplished. Please call or email if you have any questions or concerns.
