Salary Expectations

 Wages vary from company to company, region to region, and even state to state. Aerospace Engineers

As a specialized sub discipline under mechanical engineering, aerospace engineers are some of the most highly paid engineers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) aerospace engineers in 2009 could expect starting salaries of roughly $56,000. The rate of pay increases quickly from there – The median aerospace engineering salary in 2009 was nearly $95,000 and the top ten percent of aerospace engineers in the same year made over $137,000 per year – one of the highest rates of pay in any engineering discipline.

Atmospheric and Space Scientists

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov) reports that 8,800 jobs for atmospheric and Space Scientists existed in 2006; in addition, 90,000 jobs existed in the aerospace engineering field, which includes those who work in Space Science-related engineering fields. Those looking to teach subjects related to Space Science should have ample job opportunities since science teachers are in demand. According to the BLS, as of May 2008, median salaries for atmospheric and Space Scientists were $81,290 and median salaries for aeronautical engineers were $92,250. According to Careeroverview (www.careeroverview.com), the median salary for atmospheric and Space Science teachers was $69,300.

Aircraft Maintenance Technicians

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), in May 2008, aircraft maintenance technicians earned an average annual salary of $51,390. Generally, technicians who work on jets for major airlines earn more than those working on other aircraft. And those who graduate from aircraft maintenance technician schools often earn higher starting salaries than those who are trained in the armed forces or on the job. Plus, aircraft maintenance technicians and their immediate families receive reduced-fare transportation on their own and most other airlines.
