Scholarships

Cadets may apply for three (3) types of Scholarship programs:

 

Academic

Activity

Flight 

 

Academic Scholarships

 

For Academic Scholarships, applicants must meet the minimum prerequisites below:

  • Must have earned Billy Mitchell Award or higher

  • Must be a high school senior, high school graduate, or hold a GED

  • Must be accepted to a college/school or provide proof that an application has been made

  • Must attend a post-secondary school or college

  • Must be enrolled in a course of study during the academic year for which the scholarship is awarded

  • Must submit at least one but not more than three letters of recommendation written by someone who is familiar with the cadets' accomplishments in CAP. If you have multiple documents of the same type, combine them all into one document before upload.

  • Must submit a resume, not longer than 2 pages, detailing any academic, community or CAP activities not addressed on previous tabs of the application


Academic scholarships are monetary awards used to support CAP Cadets pursuing their undergraduate or graduate education. Monies are to be used for tuition, books, or room and board at any post-secondary school (i.e: college, university, vocational-technical school, etc.). Scholarship recipients must ensure that the money is used responsibly. Scholarship amounts vary but are generally in the range of $1,000 - $2,500.

Board of Governors Academic Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: $2,500 for two cadets

  • Education Type: This scholarship is awarded to cadets pursuing undergraduate or graduate education for any course of study

  • Other criteria: none

 

Chaplain (LTC) Jack Etheridge Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Education Type: This scholarship is awarded to a cadet pursuing a post-high school education, including vocational school, technical/career education, two-year or four-year accredited college/university

  • Other criteria: The applicant must maintain a "B" average in his or her current or most recent educational endeavor

 

Col Carolyn Guertin Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Education Type: This scholarship is awarded to a cadet pursuing a post-high school education, including vocational school, technical/career education, two-year or four-year accredited college/university

  • Other criteria: none

 

Hunt Family Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Details: This scholarship is awarded to a deserving cadet and can be used for flight instruction, academics, or to attend a National Cadet Special Activity (NCSA) or National Flight Academy (NFA)

  • Other criteria: none

 

Capt Nick Schroder Cadet Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Education Type: This scholarship will support a college- or academy-bound cadet

  • Other criteria: Must be a cadet majoring in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field. Be sure to indicate your interest in the STEM field on the essay.

 

Geographic Based Scholarships

August Trust 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Education Type: This scholarship is awarded to a cadet pursuing a post-high school education, including vocational school, technical/career education, two-year or four-year accredited college/university

  • Other criteria: The applicant must be a AZWG cadet majoring in a STEM or aviation related career

 

Major Randall Diaz, FLWG Group 6 Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Education Type: This scholarship is awarded to a cadet pursuing private flight instruction, post-high school education (including vocational school, technical/career education, two-year or four-year accredited college/university) or to attend a National Cadet Special Activity (NCSA) or National Flight Academy (NFA)

  • Other criteria: The applicants must be cadets in the Florida counties of Broward, Indian River, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee

 

Captain John E. Mullins Memorial Scholarship sponsored by Chapter #9, Vietnam Veterans of America 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Education Type: This scholarship is awarded to cadets pursuing undergraduate education

  • Other criteria: Needs-based. Applicant must be a MIWG cadet.

 

Activity Scholarships

 

For Activity Scholarships, all applicants must meet basic eligibility requirements below.

  • Be a current active CAP Cadet in good standing during and throughout the year.

  • Must apply for activity using Registration Zone  


Below is a list of our current activity scholarships. Thank you to our generous donors who enable CAP cadets to attend CAP National Cadet Special Activities each year, allowing them to explore careers, learn and grow. Scholarship amounts vary but are generally in the range of $1,000 - $2,500

Air Race Classic, Inc. Flight Academy Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Activity fee awarded to one cadet (only activity fee)

  • Activity Type: This activity scholarship applies to female cadets attending a National Flight Academy 

  • Other criteria: none
     

Cadet Officer School Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year (only activity fee) 

  • Activity Type: This activity scholarship applies to only cadets attending Cadet Officer School 

  • Other criteria: Unit/Wing Endorsement
     

Cornelia Fort Flight Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Activity Type: This flight scholarship can be used by a cadet to attend a CAP National Flight Academy (NFA)

  • Other criteria: none

 

Hunt Family Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Details: This scholarship is awarded to a deserving cadet and can be used for flight instruction, academics, or to attend a National Cadet Special Activity (NCSA) or National Flight Academy (NFA)

  • Other criteria: none

 

Malcolm Kyser Memorial NESA Scholarship

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Activity Type: This activity scholarship applies to cadets attending National Emergency Services Academy (NESA) 

  • Other criteria: Applicants are vetted by the NESA staff and should have an interest in communications



Lt Col Dan Roman Memorial NCSA Activity Scholarship

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year (only activity fee)

  • Activity Type: This activity scholarship applies to cadets attending National Blue Beret

  • Other criteria: none

 

Capt Nick Schroder Cadet Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year (only activity fee).

  • Activity Type: This activity scholarship applies to any academic-type National Cadet Special Activities (NCSAs)

  • Other criteria: none

 

Geographic Based Scholarships

AKWG Female Aviation NCSA/NFA scholarship

  • Amount/Quantity: Activity fee awarded to one cadet (only activity fee)

  • Activity Type: This activity scholarship applies to female cadets attending a National Flight Academy or an Aviation-themed National Cadet Special Activity 

  • Other criteria: Must belong to Alaska Wing and reside in Alaska 


Lt Col Kenneth J. Bureau Memorial Flight Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Activity Type: This flight scholarship can be used by a cadet to attend a flight academy

  • Other criteria: Preference will be given to cadets from Northern Michigan or Minnesota


Bernice Givens and Johanna Burnet Memorial Flight Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year (only activity fee)

  • Activity Type: This activity scholarship applies to cadets attending Johnson Flight Academy

  • Other criteria: Must belong to Great Lakes Region

 

Lt Col Edward J. Myzie Flight Academy Scholarship

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year (only activity fee)

  • Activity Type: This activity scholarship applies to any CAP National Flight Academy (NFA) that is accredited

  • Other criteria: Priority will be given to New Jersey cadets attending NJWG Flight Academy

 

Capt John Allan Robertson Memorial Endowment 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year (only activity fee).

  • Activity Type: This activity scholarship applies to any CAP National Powered Flight Academy (NFA))

  • Other criteria: Preference will be given to a cadet applicant from TX-430, Rio Del Fierro Composite Squadron with a secondary preference is a cadet from NC-162, Iredell Composite Squadron
     

Major Randall Diaz, FLWG Group 6 Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Education Type: This scholarship is awarded to a cadet pursuing private flight instruction, post-high school education (including vocational school, technical/career education, two-year or four-year accredited college/university) or to attend a National Cadet Special Activity (NCSA) or National Flight Academy (NFA)

  • Other criteria: The applicants must be cadets in the Florida counties of Broward, Indian River, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee

 

Flight Scholarships

 

For Flight Scholarships, all applicants must meet basic eligibility requirements including: 

  • Have a Third Class Medical Certificate and valid student pilot certificate.  However, you are not required to have these at the time that you apply.  If selected, you will have to send a copy of both certificates in order to claim your scholarship.

  • Must be a current cadet

  • Submit a flight plan in addition to a resume and letter of recommendation.

  • Must submit at least one but not more than three letters of recommendation written by someone who is familiar with the cadets' accomplishments in CAP. If you have multiple documents of the same type, combine them all into one document before upload.

  • Must submit a resume, not longer than 2 pages, detailing any academic, community or CAP activities not addressed on previous tabs of the application.

Scholarship amounts vary but are generally in the range of $1,000 - $2,500.

CAP Cadet Flight Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: $1,000 for six cadets

  • Instruction Type: This flight scholarship can be used for ground school, flight training at a local FBO (FAA part 61 or 141), training on CAP aircraft with a CAP instructor, or at a CAP flight academy

  • Other criteria: Preference given to cadets who have earned their solo badge or have graduated from an aerospace related special activity

 

Col Carolyn Guertin Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Instruction Type: This flight scholarship can be used for ground school, flight training at a local FBO (FAA part 61 or 141), training on CAP aircraft with a CAP instructor, or at a CAP flight academy

  • Other criteria: none

 

Lt Col William E. Hanna, Jr. Memorial Flight Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: $5,000 awarded to one cadet

  • Instruction Type: This flight scholarship can be used for local flight training at a FBO (FAA part 61 or 141) or training on CAP aircraft with a CAP flight instructor

  • Other criteria: Additional Special Eligibility Requirements

    • Must be a current cadet that has completed a CAP Powered Solo Flight Academy at the Wing, Region, or National-level and earned the solo rating

    • Must review the background information on this flight scholarship. Click this link.

    • Submit an essay, no longer than one page, explaining why you should be selected for this scholarship and your knowledge of the life of Lt. Col. Hanna. It should include long-term goals with regard to aviation and service.

    • The Hanna family gets one vote on the selected applicant

 

Hunt Family Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Details: This scholarship is awarded to a deserving cadet and can be used for flight instruction, academics, or to attend a National Cadet Special Activity (NCSA) or National Flight Academy (NFA)

  • Other criteria: none

 

William Penn Foundation Scholarship 

  • Amount/Quantity: Varies each year

  • Instruction Type: This flight scholarship can be used for ground school, flight training at a local FBO (FAA part 61 or 141), training on CAP aircraft with a CAP instructor, or at a CAP flight academy

  • Other criteria: none

 

Geographic Based Scholarships

  • Instruction Type: This flight scholarship can be used for ground school, flight training at a local FBO (FAA part 61 or 141), training on CAP aircraft with a CAP instructor, or at a CAP flight academy

  • Other criteria: Preference will be given to cadets from FLWG
