Which CPPT (Cadet Protection Program Training) course do I need to take to renew training?
Most members will take the Cadet Protection Basic Renewal course. Members in duty positions requiring CPPT Advanced will take the Cadet Protection Advanced course. Cadets will take the Cadet Protection for Cadets Renewal course. All courses are available in Absorb.
How often do I need to renew my CPPT?
Beginning August 31, 2025 all members over the age of 18 in active membership categories (i.e., not patrons) must complete CPPT every 12 months.
My duty position requires CPPT Advanced. Do I have to take the Basic and Advanced courses every 12 months?
No, members in duty positions that require CPPT Advanced, renew their training with the Cadet Protection Advanced Course every 12 months for the length of their assignment.
I completed CPPT Basic as part of Level 1, but my Level 1 isn't complete. How can I renew my CPPT?
In order to access the renewal course in Absorb, you have to complete Level 1. Please reach out to cadetprotection@capnhq.gov for assistance.

Is it possible to do CPPT Basic (as part of Level 1 or the renewal) in-person? My squadron has members with limited internet access.
For Level 1: Instructors can use the Bulk Upload feature in VOLU to record CPPT Basic.

For Renewals: The basic CPPT renewal course can be taken in-person, documented via the CAPF 11. Please reach out to cadetprotection@capnhq.gov to discuss your options.
Do assistants (e.g., assistant IG, assistant DCP) need to complete and renew CPPT Advanced every 12 months?
Yes. Members in duty positions, either as the primary or assistant, that require CPPT Advanced, must renew their CPPT with the CPPT Advanced Course every 12 months.
I am a cadet over 18 (or turning 18 soon) who needs to renew my CPPT. What course do I take?
You need to take the Cadet Protection Basic for Cadets RENEWAL course in Absorb. It looks like this, and should be in "My Courses" on your dashboard in Absorb. If you can't find it, please email cadetprotection@capnhq.gov for help! The course picture in Absorb looks like the image below:
Where do I find the course(s) online?
You can find the course in Absorb. This link will take you to Absorb (you’ll be prompted to log in to eServices first): https://capnhq.myabsorb.com/#/

You can also log in through eServices (click on Menu, then Online Learning, then Absorb LMS). When you log in, you will have the option to search the catalog (the magnifying glass up at the top), and the different CPPT courses will come up. Click "enroll" and then "start" and you'll be all set!
I am a cadet / I am helping a cadet complete CPPT for the first time. Are there instructions available?
Yes, please see the User Guide attached here (also available in Cadet Promotions, in eServices > Cadet Programs). For cadets completing CPPT for the first time, please don't forget it has two parts: (1) the online course via Absorb: Cadet Protection Basic for Cadets, and (2) the summary conversation.

No, CPPT is required for people in active membership categories (e.g., cadet over 18 years old, cadet sponsor members, senior members, 50 year members, etc.).

Yes! Use the link below to view a PDF that will walk you through each step. As a general note: be sure to click enroll and then start on the course in Absorb. One other tip is that you scroll all the way down the page and answer the question, then click continue, and you’ll go to the next page of the lesson.

CPPT Basic Renewal Step by Step Instructions
Is there a widget I can add to my dashboard in eServices to remind me of my CPPT expiration timeframe?
Yes! Head to eServices, and then click on the gears in the right corner. Scroll down to Widgets, and click on "Add New Widget" then click on "My Expirations" and hit save. When you go back to your dashboard, you'll see the a My Expirations box, that will populate when your CPPT expires within 90 days. You'll also receive email reminders.
If a 50 year member would like to become a patron member, will they have to pay dues?
No, they will not have to pay dues if they transition to a patron member type. Please note they are a 50 year member on their transfer paperwork, and reach out to membershipservices@capnhq.gov with any questions.
What happens if a member doesn't renew their CPPT before 31 August (or every 12 months)?
Per CAPR 60-2, section 3.2.3 all adult leaders (including senior members, cadet sponsor members, 50 year members, etc.) and cadets over the age of 18 are prohibited from participating in any CAP activities until their training is complete. This includes all CAP activities: unit meetings, overnight trips, sorties, missions, virtual events, etc.

When a non-compliant member logs into eServices, they’ll see a banner that directs them to Absorb to complete their required training and their training record will update automatically.
I read the CPPT is required for all active member categories. What does that mean?
Cadet Protection Program Training (CPPT) is required for all active member categories, as defined in CAPR 39-2, regardless of their unit assignment. Members assigned to a 000 unit are not exempt from this requirement. Active membership is designated by member category (e.g., senior, 50-year member, cadet over 18, cadet sponsor member, etc.) not by unit membership.
