Transportation Mission Pilot

After earning your initial CAP VFR Pilot qualification, you can work toward additional qualifications such as becoming a Transport Mission Pilot (TMP). This role allows you to gain valuable mission experience and provides a stepping stone toward becoming a Mission Pilot (MP). TMPs play a key role in CAP’s operational missions by transporting personnel, supplies, and equipment to mission sites.

Requirements to Become a Transport Mission Pilot

To qualify as a TMP, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at Least 18 Years of Age. You must be a legal adult to hold this qualification

  • Complete CAPT 116, General Emergency Services (GES), on the CAP eLearning Platform. This quiz ensures you have the foundational knowledge required to participate in CAP emergency services missions.

  • Complete FEMA IS 100 and IS 700 courses. These courses introduce you to the structure of the Incident Command System (ICS) and its role in emergency response.

  • You must have logged at least 50 hours of cross-country flight time. This time can be accumulated both inside and outside of CAP.

  • You must have at least 100 hours of PIC time, which can also be accrued both inside and outside of CAP. This time does not need to be in an airplane.

  • Once you meet all requirements, your unit commander must approve your TMP qualification in Ops Quals.

CAP Pilots can use the “What Do I Need?” site on Ops Quals to validate their requirements for TMP.
