General Emergency Services (GES) Training

Civil Air Patrol offers essential training for members involved in Emergency Services (ES), preparing them for roles in search and rescue (SAR), disaster relief, and other critical missions. General Emergency Services (GES) training equips members with the foundational knowledge and skills required to effectively participate in CAP's emergency operations while ensuring safety and mission readiness.

Core Training Topics

GES training includes a wide range of important topics designed to introduce members to the key principles and protocols of emergency services:

CAP Emergency Services Mission: A thorough understanding of CAP’s role in supporting emergency operations, including SAR, disaster relief, and humanitarian assistance.
Incident Command System (ICS): Training on the ICS, a standardized approach to the command, control, and coordination of emergency response, in line with National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols.
Mission Safety and Risk Management: Emphasis on safety and risk mitigation during missions, ensuring members are prepared to manage operational risks effectively.
CAP Regulations: Overview of CAP-specific rules and guidelines that govern emergency services, including communication standards, operational procedures, and coordination with external agencies.

Training Requirements

To participate in CAP emergency services operations, members must complete specific training modules. These include:

CAPT 116 General Emergency Services Test: This introductory test ensures members understand the basic responsibilities and safety requirements for participating in emergency services missions.
CAPT 117 Series: A set of three courses covering advanced ES topics, including mission responsibilities, leadership roles, and operational guidelines.
Level 1 Professional Development for Senior Members or Achievement 1 (Curry) for Cadets: Senior members must complete Level 1 of CAP’s Professional Development program, while cadets are required to complete Achievement 1 (Curry) before participating in emergency services missions.

Online Learning: Members can access GES training materials through CAP’s eLearning Platform. This platform allows for flexible, self-paced learning.
