Cadets who are interested in obtaining their private pilot certificate need to pass an FAA private pilot written exam. There are many commercial off the shelf products that help cadets learn the concepts and prepare for the test. Because this is a difficult hurdle to overcome alone, CAP units often put together a cohort of cadets to mentor, as they complete their coursework together. The courses usually last 4-6 weeks and meet in-person or virtually to allow participants to review harder-to-learn concepts and ask an instructor pilot questions.
Format: Virtual, multi-week activity, typically 6 weeks in duration
Audience: Cadets who are working towards a private pilot certificate
Approved Curricula: CAPS71 series addresses approved curricula for flight training. For airplanes, several commercial off the shelf syllabi are approved. The approved companies listed in the table below also have online ground school products.
