GAMA/Build A Plane 2017 Aviation Design Challenge Registration Opens
High school classes and after-school programs are invited to register for the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA)/Build A Plane 2017 Aviation Design Challenge. The contest, sponsored by GAMA, promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education through aviation in U.S. high schools. Registration is limited to the first 100 high schools that complete the registration form and email it to STEMcompetition@gama.aero. But the deadline to enter is Jan. 20.
Schools interested in the competition receive complimentary "Fly to Learn" curricula, which comes with flight simulation software powered by X-Plane. The lessons help the competitors modify the design of an airplane and compete in a virtual fly-off to measure performance. The prize includes an all-expenses-paid trip for up to four high school students, one teacher and one chaperone to experience general aviation manufacturing first-hand. Winners will be announced in May.
