Registration for CAP-NASA collaboration 2025 Contrail Mission is open
Join Aerospace Education for an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking NASA research. Following the tremendous success of our Solar Eclipse Missions in 2023 and 2024, the Civil Air Patrol is again collaborating with NASA for the 2025 Contrail Mission to study how aircraft affect weather in the upper atmosphere. This dynamic mission offers squadrons the chance to participate in real scientific research while earning Quality Cadet Unit Award (QCUA) points. Members will work together in teams of 6-18 CAP volunteers, and they will tackle mission roles such as Weather Officer, Flight Tracker, Photographer, Orienteer, and Data Manager.
Registration is now open through March 1. Registered squadrons will be asked to collect data from 0800 to 1200 hours local time on at least two of the four mission observation dates: April 12, May 10, June 14, and July 12, 2023. The mission requires just 20 hours of commitment, including comprehensive training and two 4-hour observation periods. Teams will use a combination of modern technology and traditional tools - from flight tracking apps to compasses - to collect valuable data for NASA's research. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of something big! Register your squadron today and join us in advancing our understanding of atmospheric science!
