Pilot Alert - Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) Crew Responsibilities

May 29, 2017

For aircraft equipped with ADS-B systems, operating in ADS-B airspace includes one small, but significant crew operational requirement.  It is actually simple.  The Call Sign that is used when the IFR flight plan is filed, must match the Flight ID parameter in ADS-B Out.  For the majority of operators, this is the tail number of the airplane and will not change.  Please take a moment and verify your Flight ID parameter to prevent confusion for Air Traffic Control.  Click here to view the instructions to set Flight ID for recently manufactured aircraft.  Instructions for setting Flight ID are also included in the Pilot Guides supplied with your avionics.
